Gems are not created equal and traditionally there are only 2 categories of gems –

Precious Gems and Semi-Precious Gems.

However, those categories are too broad and no longer accurately describe a Gem’s Value and Rarity. We classify Gems into 3 categories –

Classic, Rare, and Trending.

CLASSIC GEMS

Diamond, Ruby, Emerald and Sapphire

Classic Gems have historically been revered and still continue to be very popular. Gems in this category usually hold a more steady value. Gems in our Rare category can often be more expensive than gems in the Classic category. Gem value can no longer be rated based solely on its category. Gem prices are determined by rarity, colour, clarity, carat size, origin and certification among other things.

Rare Gems are harder to come by and more attention has to be paid to the colour, its intensity and clarity. These gems are usually in high demand and have become very popular amongst avid gem collectors. Some of these gems in bigger sizes are very scarce and have become investment items. Pay attention to the special attributes of the Gem as these properties will define its value, rarity and price. However, Gems across the categories may become more accessible depending on size, colour, clarity and origin.

RARE GEMS

Spinel, Paraiba, Padparadscha, Tsavorite and Chrysoberyl

TRENDING GEMS

Tanzanite, Peridot, Kunzite, Morganite, Aquamarine, Tourmaline and Garnet

Trending Gems are easier to come by and not as rare. They come in a wide array of colours and is perfect for more casual, everyday jewellery. Being the most accessible gem category, you will be able to pick up larger sizes to create more adventurous pieces. This is a great category to start with if you are new to collecting gems. In this category you can start your selection journey based on a colour you like and go from there.
